Our President, Kelvin Verrett, is a U.S. Air Force veteran and Department of Defense mechanical design engineer. His motto is, “innovation through application.” This focus drives him to create things that have never been seen before using unorthodox applications.
Kelvin turned to making high-performance writing instruments after spending 20+ years in the Air Force, where he achieved the rank of major. He spent another ten years working as a Department of Defense design engineer on several aircraft, including the KC-135, F-15, F-16, B-1B and F-35.
Our Writing instrument endeavor actually started in 2014 out of the Presidents’ three-car garage. He successfully peddled pens via Kickstarter for five years. By 2019 we outgrew the 600 sq. ft. “hobby” garage and moved to a 6,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Abilene, TX.
This new manufacturing facility houses multiple state-of-the-art Swiss lathes that can hold tolerances to the sixth decimal place. They produce precision products where the largest tolerance band is just 0.0015″!
The application of multiple technologies and properly prepared surfaces result in second-to-none quality writing instruments. These instruments are both literally (to the touch) and operationally, incredibly smooth. Everyone who operates one agrees that hands down, they are the smoothest on the market, hence our brand name SMOOTH™.
